“Our work for peace must begin within the private world of each of us. To build for man a world without fear, we must be without fear. To build a world of justice, we must be just.” – Dag Hammarskjöld

The Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists, a living memorial to the legacy of the second Secretary-General of the United Nations, is dedicated to the advancement of a fuller understanding of the deliberations of the United Nations as it seeks to alleviate human suffering and further world peace; to support and promote the profession of journalism in the developing countries of Africa, Asia (including Pacific Island nations), Latin America and the Caribbean, and to inspire a strong and diverse community of journalists who will give voice to the challenges facing their countries. The Fund is not an affiliated organization of the United Nations. It is a not-for-profit organization administered solely by U.N. correspondents, and financial resources are raised by the journalists themselves.

Support The Fund

Although the Fund is based at the United Nations, it does not receive financial support from the world organization. The Fund’s program for journalists relies entirely on financial support from U.N. Missions, foundations, organizations and individuals.
