Recipients of 2026 Dag Hammarskjöld Journalism Fellowships

Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, the Fund could not conduct an in-person Hammarskjöld Journalism Fellowship program during the 76th United Nations General Assembly in 2021. Instead, the Fund selected four journalists from applications received in 2020 to observe and report on U.N. deliberations, conferences and interviews via virtual sessions.

Nathan Guma, 31, is a 14-time award-winning investigative data journalist from Zimbabwe working for The NewsHawks and founder of Insights of the World (IOW Data), an initiative that trims large data into actionable insights for public leaders. He covers natural resource governance, global and local politics, and public finance management. His reporting has influenced policy and parliamentary debates. He is also a 2025 Mandela Washington Fellow at Syracuse University, a 2024 Entrepreneurial Journalism Fellow at the US Embassy in Zimbabwe, and a 2023 Africa Investigative Journalism Fellow at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.

Ainur Imangali, 33, is a Kazakh journalist specializing in international politics, Central Asia and Kazakhstan’s development agenda. She is Deputy Managing Director of Silk Way TV Channel, Kazakhstan’s first international television broadcaster. As a member of the official press corps, she has covered high-level political visits and major diplomatic events, including the UN General Assembly, COP29, C5+ summits, the One Water Summit, and the Doha Forum. With more than a decade of experience in journalism, she has held editorial and reporting positions across Kazkahstan’s leading media organizations. In 2026, she received a state award for her contribution to the development of Kazakhstan’s media industry.
