Queen Noor and Mia Farrow Honored by UN JournalistsThe Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists honored Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan and actress Mia Farrow with their Inspiration Award. Both women are strong advocates on humanitarian, human rights and peace issues.
The Fund brings journalists from developing nations to New York each autumn to cover the United Nations General Assembly. It is managed on a voluntary basis by U.N.-based correspondents, who raise funds to support it. Initiated in 1962, the Fund was established as a memorial to Dag Hammarskjöld, the second U.N. secretary-general, killed in a plane crash in September 1961. The 2011 fellowship recipients are from China, Ethiopia, India and Nigeria. "Our work for peace must begin within the private world of each one of us. To search for meaning in a world without fear, we must be without fear. To build aworld of justice, we must be just. And how can we fight for liberty if we are not free in our own minds? How can we ask others to sacrifice if we are not ready to do so?" ----Dag Hammarskjöld |
