The Fund is dedicated to promoting a lasting legacy to Dag Hammarskjöld by expanding knowledge of and support for the United Nations through full and accurate reporting of its activities throughout the world. The Dag Hammarskjöld Fellowship Program has become increasingly important because fewer news organizations from developing countries can afford to maintain reporters in New York.
The Fund does not maintain a staff. It is administered by a group of volunteer journalists accredited to the United Nations. Therefore, all contributions go directly to improving and enriching the Fellowship Program.

The Memorial Scholarship Fund was established as a 501(c)(3) organization in 1961. All contributions to the Fund are fully tax deductible in the United States. A receipt will be provided upon request
